Characterization of temperate bacteriophages of Bacillus thuringiensis.

چکیده
Eight phages lysogenic for Bacillus thuringiensis var. galleriae which elicit the lytic response in B. thuringiensis var. subtoxicus were isolated by induction of the host strains. We have divided these phages into three groups: group I, phages GT-t to GT-5; group II, GT-6 and GT-7; group IlI, GT-8. The following properties of the phages were examined: morphology, host range, serum neutralization, adsorption rates, one-step growth characteristics and thermal inactivation rates. The three groups are readily distinguishable on the basis of morphology and host range. Group II and III show a high degree of homology in regard to their host range, serum neutralization, one-step growth and thermal inactivation characteristics. The phages bear a certain resemblance to previously reported virulent phages of B. thuringiensis (Chapman & Norris, 1966; Colasito & Rogoff, 1969).

Complete Genome Sequence of a Mosaic Bacteriophage, Waukesha92
In this study, we determined the complete genome sequence of a mosaic bacteriophage, Waukesha92, which was isolated from soil using Bacillus thuringiensis as the host organism. This temperate Myoviridae bacteriophage has similarities to phages SpaA1 and BceA1 and the Bacillus thuringiensis plasmid pBMB165.

20 Bacillus thuringiensis is an entomopathogenic bacterium that has been used worldwide as an 21 efficient biopesticide. Despite that this bacterium is usually described as an insect pathogen, 22 its lifecycle in the environment is still largely unknown. B. thuringiensis belongs to the 23 Bacillus cereus group of bacteria, which has been associated with many mobile genetic 24 elements such as s...
متن کاملCharacterization of temperate bacteriophages of Bacillus subtilis by the restriction endonuclease EcoRI: evidence for three different temperate bacteriophages.
Temperate bacteriophages of Bacillus subtilis were characterized according to host range and digestion of the bacteriophage genome by endonuclease EcoRI. The three bacteriophages, phi3T, SPO2, and phi105, were all heteroimmune, and the DNA digests showed dissimilar patterns by agarose-ethidium bromide gel electrophoresis.
متن کاملGIL16, a new gram-positive tectiviral phage related to the Bacillus thuringiensis GIL01 and the Bacillus cereus pBClin15 elements.
One of the most notable characteristics of Tectiviridae resides in their double-layer coats: the double-stranded DNA is located within a flexible lipoprotein vesicle covered by a rigid protein capsid. Despite their apparent rarity, tectiviruses have an extremely wide distribution compared to other phage groups. Members of this family have been found to infect gram-negative (PRD1 and relatives) ...
متن کاملGenome Sequences of Two Bacillus cereus Group Bacteriophages, Eyuki and AvesoBmore
The genomes of two double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) bacteriophages isolated on Bacillus thuringiensis show similarity to previously sequenced phages and provide evidence of the mosaicism of phage genomes.
